P18 on the first day in Valencia

Unexpected rainy weather greets the Moto2 riders on Friday in Valencia. Tom Lüthi finishes the first day in the top 20.

MotoGP started the final race weekend of the 2021 season with unexpected rainy weather today. The wet track conditions were Tom Lüthi's undoing in the first free practice session: the Swiss rider crashed after just a few practice laps, losing valuable practice time. With better weather and drying track in the afternoon, the feeling for the bike improved, but Tom Lüthi still could not show his full performance. Tomorrow, Saturday, he and his team have a lot of work to do to make the direct step into Q2, given better weather forecasts.

Tom Lüthi (18. | 1'48.880 | +0.848):

The day started quite difficult, in the first free practice in the morning I crashed. But after the track was drier in the afternoon, we were able to work well in FP2. We now have to somehow improve the grip at the rear in particular. I assume that it's also partly due to the track, which still has quite little grip, but we also have to get better in the setup to find more speed. Overall, I'm quite happy with the first day.
