Difficult start for Tom Lüthi in Austin

After more than two years, MotoGP returns to the Circuit of the Americas. Tom Lüthi starts the AmericasGP weekend with a 20th place.

Since 2013, the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) has hosted a Grand Prix every year except 2020. The 5.5-kilometer track is always a spectacle for numerous visitors and offers plenty of action with long, fast straights and tight hairpin turns. For Tom Lüthi and the SAG Racing Team, however, it was a rather rude awakening when they returned to the COTA for the first time in two years. The track was said to be in an uneven condition with the grip not ideal. Not an easy base for Tom Lüthi - he ends the first practice day in 20th place on the combined times sheet.

Tom Lüthi (P20 | 2’11.505):

It has been a strange day and a hard day for me. FP1 was kind of half wet and half dry conditions. Inmediately we found out that the track is in a really bad situation specially with the bumps. For all the classes and all the riders it’s a big problem, we were struggling a lot with this. Anyway we kept on working trying to find a way to get better. FP2 was completely dry but we didn’t found the speed. We had a small problem with the electronic on the bike and this cost us some laps which are very important on this track. Let’s see what the weather brings tomorrow, I hope it’s going to be dry tomorrow morning so we can make one step forward in FP3 to make the way direct into Q2.
