Fifth row on the grid for Tom Lüthi at the San Marino GP

Tom Lüthi has disputed the qualifying sessions of the San Marino Grand Prix today. The Swiss will start from the fifth row of the grid after getting through to Q2.

Tom Lüthi couldn’t make it straight into Q2 during the free practice session after track conditions were completely different from yesterday. In Q1 Lüthi managed a good lap despite the rain. Already in Q2, the Swiss rider gave his best under tricky track conditions and tomorrow he will start from fourteenth position.

Tom Lüthi (P14 | 1’37.388):

It’s been a mixed day for us. The weather forecast was dry and we thought that the day would be different than yesterday for us so FP3 was very difficult. I couldn’t make it straight into Q2 but during Q1 I could make a fast lap in difficult conditions. I could make the step into Q2 which was really cool and it makes me really happy. In the Q2, I was quite wet on the track but it wasn’t enough wet for wet tyres. I decided to stay on the same tyres because the used tyres are always better than the new tyres in the humidity patches. The team was ready with the new tyres in the box but I was in a perfect place with Bezzecchi and I decided to stay out. At the end of the Q2, the tyres were quite old but still I could manage to go faster than all over the weekend specially today because it was only dry. It was very positive also the changes on the bike, the team did a difficult job. I had a really good feeling specially in the Q2 I could push much more in the front and this gave me a lot of confidence for tomorrow.
