Up and downs on the first day in Silverstone

Tom Lüthi starts the weekend of the BritishGP in 14th place overall.

At around 16°C and dry conditions Tom Lüthi started today Friday with a good first free practice into the weekend of the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit. Classified in 8th place in the morning, 1.136s behind, he lost a few ranks in the afternoon due to tire choice and finished the second free practice session in P22, putting him 14th in the combined times (+1.531s). However, the afternoon gap was not without reason, according to the Swiss - together with the team, they decided on a harder tire choice to save the soft tires for Saturday and thus for FP3 and qualifying.

It’s been a little bit up and down day. FP1 was good and FP2 wasn’t so good. I tried to bring the soft tyre over distance and this worked quite well, so I’m happy with that but I couldn’t go any faster with a new hard tyre and this is a little disappointing. I hope that I can make a step forward tomorrow to make it straight to the Q2 so FP3 will be important.
